New 2018+ Baseball Bat Rules
Starting in 2018, baseball bat standards are changing nationally. Here is what you need to know when purchasing a new bat for the 2018 CLBR Season:
CLBR Major Division (13 Years Old - 15 Years Old)
Bats MUST have the new USA Baseball Stamp or a BBCOR .50 stamp with a 2 5/8" barrel
There is no "drop" or "minus" restriction for this level
CLBR Senior Division (16 Years Old - 19 Years Old) & Illinois High School Baseball
Bats must be stamped with a BBCOR .50 stamp with a 2 5/8" barrel
Bats must be Minus-3 (Drop 3)
2018 Baseball Bat FAQs:
Q: Where can I find more information on these rules?
A: Please see the National Babe Ruth website for more information on the new 2018 Bat Rules:
https://www.baberuthleague.org/bat-rules.aspx
Q: What is a "Minus" or "Drop" when it comes to baseball bats?
A: A "Minus" or "Drop" when it comes to baseball bats is determined by the bat's printed weight in OUNCES minus the length in INCHES.
See the following examples:
A bat that weighs 26 ounce and is 31 inches long is considered a "Minus-5" or "Drop 5". (26 oz - 31 in = -5)
A bat that weights 28 ounces and is 31 inches long is considered a "Minus-3" or "Drop 3). (28 oz - 31 in = -3)
***All Illinois High School baseball Requires a "Drop 3"
